This Monday (15), the academic community also started to have a morning meal with bread, drinks and fruit.
The first breakfast menu at the University Restaurant (RU), on the main campus of the State University of Maringá (UEM), served on the morning of this Monday (15), after more than ten years without breakfast service, included bread with margarine and mozzarella, cheese bread, sweet biscuits, banana, coffee, milk, tea and strawberry and coconut yogurt.
The balanced meal with carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals was offered between 6:40 and 7:40 for just R$2, both for students and employees of the institution.
With the return of breakfast, the RU now serves three meals a day to the academic community. Until last week, the restaurant already offered two meals, lunch, between 11 am and 1 pm, and dinner, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
UEM Rector Leandro Vanalli and Vice-Rector Gisele Mendes attended the resumption of activities, having breakfast with students and staff. Vanalli thanked all the staff involved in the work that ensured the return of morning service and expressed his satisfaction and that of the Vice-Rector in being able to implement yet another action to strengthen UEM's student retention policy during this administration. Mendes also emphasized the importance of ensuring, at a reduced cost, three meals a day for the academic community.
Also participating in the first day of breakfast were the Chief of Staff, Maria Luísa Furlan Costa, the Pro-Rector of Human Resources (PRH), José Maria de Oliveira Marques, the Pro-Rector of Education (PEN), Marcos Vinicius Francisco, the Pro-Rector of Extension and Culture (PEC), Rafael da Silva, the Legal Attorney (PJU), Geovanio Edervaldo Rossato, the General Coordinator of the Projects and Processes Office (EPP), Gislaine Camila Lapasini Leal, the Technical Coordinator of the EPP, Sidinei Silvério da Silva, the Mayor of the Campus, Doralice Soares, and the President of the Central Student Directory (DCE), Gabriel Ramos.
Balanced menu
The ingredients used to prepare breakfast at the RU will be provided by the Solidarity Food and Sustainable Agriculture Program (Pasas), linked to the Office of the Rector (GRE) and responsible for producing food to supply the University.
In addition to contributing to the sustainability and food security of the academic community, breakfast will also be an opportunity for integration and socializing. The initiative is part of the student retention policy of the UEM Rectorate, which also promoted, over the last year, the return of the dinner offer and the addition of vegetarian options to the RU menu.
Demand and investments
The purchase of equipment and utensils was made possible by investments of around R$1.5 million, raised through projects developed by the EPP. The implementation of the breakfast is led by the head of the RU, Milton Garcia, and by the coordinator of Pasas, Altair Bertonha.
The contribution of the Food Engineering (DAL) and Production Engineering (DEP) departments also stands out, as they have provided technical assistance to the RU through professors Grasiele Scaramal Madrona, Antonio Roberto Giriboni Monteiro and Francielle Cristina Fenerich.
Linked to the Community Affairs Department (DCT) of the PRH, the UEM RU operates from Monday to Friday and provides healthy and nutritious meals to students and staff of the University. The daily menu will include items such as bread, margarine, mozzarella, coffee, milk and tea. In addition, a variety of foods will be offered in a staggered manner, such as cheese bread, milk drinks, papaya and banana.
